Creating a better commercial insurance platform

building a visual language for enterprise software

towerIQ, 2019-Present | Lead designer

Introduction

The commercial property & casualty insurance industry is still heavily paper-based. Clients tell us about overflowing binders, mis-entered names, and the trials of finding replacement typewriter parts on eBay. TowerIQ’s goal is to make brokers’ and carriers’ lives easier.

We do this by creating a one-stop digital platform for (nearly) every aspect of their jobs—from automating custom workflows to populating data across the entire system, dramatically reducing errors and omissions.

My role

As the sole designer, I work closely with every member of our team to build out a massive enterprise insurance platform and grow our design system. I do everything from wireframes to simple interaction animations and writing. Our platform encompasses three separate portals (broker, carrier, and client) and a robust set of features.

Big wins from the past year:

  • Complete visual redesign: rolled out an entirely new left navigation system and a new color palette for a more modern look. Updated every element of our design system to accommodate not only our new look, but ability for users to add custom branding.

  • Major platform expansion: scoped, documented, and designed major functionality for the site, including a full WYSIWYG form builder. Built out workflows and worked with team of offshore developers to implement smoothly.

  • Mobile responsiveness: added designs for mobile and tablet use.
